Your life does not move at one steady pace. It unfolds in four great cycles, each with its own character, its own high point, and its own lesson. And when one cycle ends and the next begins, you usually feel it — these transitions tend to coincide with the biggest events of a life: a move, a marriage, a loss, a reinvention, the start of the work you were really born to do.
The numbers will not tell you exactly what will happen. But they will tell you when the ground is most likely to shift, and what each season is asking of you.
The four cycles — and how long each one lasts
The first cycle and the last cycle are the longest. The two in the middle are nine years each.
To find where your first cycle ends, you take 36 minus your life path number. So if your life path is 1, your first cycle runs from birth to age 35 (36 − 1). From there, each of the next two cycles lasts nine years, and the fourth runs to the end of your journey.
How to calculate your cycles
Reduce your birth day, your birth month, and your birth year each down to a single digit — keep adding the digits until you land on 1–9.
Take someone born 16 February 1971:
Month: 2
Year: 1 + 9 + 7 + 1 = 18 → 1 + 8 = 9
Now build the four cycles. Each cycle has a peak (its pinnacle — you add) and a challenge (its lesson — you subtract, always the smaller from the bigger).
Cycle 2 → Day + Year. Peak: 7 + 9 = 16 → 7 · Challenge: 9 − 7 = 2
Cycle 3 → add the two peaks above. Peak: 9 + 7 = 16 → 7 · Challenge: 5 − 2 = 3
Cycle 4 → Month + Year. Peak: 2 + 9 = 11 → 2 · Challenge: 9 − 2 = 7
The peak shows where you shine in that season — the energy that carries you to your high point. The challenge shows the lesson you are there to master before the cycle can release you into the next one.
Why the transitions feel like turning points
Each time one cycle hands over to the next, the dominant number in your life changes — and with it, what life asks of you. A season ruled by the 4 (building, structure, responsibility) giving way to a season ruled by the 5 (freedom, movement, change) is rarely quiet. This is why people so often marry, move, change careers, or rebuild themselves right at these thresholds. The cycle was turning. The numbers simply name the season you were already stepping into.
